Kui Buri National Park regulates its safari hours to protect the animals and match their natural habits. You cannot enter the wildlife watching area in the morning. Planning your arrival for the early afternoon ensures you get a safari truck before the herds become active.
What time does the Kui Buri safari open?
The Huai Luek Wildlife Watching Area opens strictly at 14:00 and closes at 18:00 every day.
Rangers do not allow private vehicles or safari trucks past the visitor center before 14:00. This restricted schedule keeps the park quiet during the morning. It gives the population of over 300 Asian elephants time to rest in the deep jungle.
What is the best time of day to see elephants?
The peak window for spotting wild elephants is between 15:30 and 17:30.
As the intense afternoon heat begins to drop, the elephants move out of the dense forest. They head toward the open grasslands and artificial salt licks to feed and bathe. Arriving at the ranger station around 14:30 gives you time to pay your fees and hire a truck before this peak activity starts.

Which months are the best time to visit Kui Buri?
The dry season from December to April is the optimal time for wildlife spotting.
During these dry months, water sources deep in the jungle dry up. This forces elephants and wild gaurs to visit the 43 cement water bowls and 103 artificial salt licks near the viewing platforms. You can visit year-round, but rain between May and November makes the dirt roads muddy.
| Season | Months | Visibility Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dry Season | December to April | Highest visibility as animals seek water at artificial ponds. |
| Rainy Season | May to November | Park remains open, but trails are muddy and rain jackets are needed. |
Can I visit the park in the morning?
You cannot do an elephant safari in the morning, but you can visit the park headquarters.
The Huai Luek safari zone remains closed until 14:00. If you arrive early, you can visit the main Park Headquarters and Ban Yan Sue Lake. This separate administrative area features nature trails for birdwatching and a scenic reservoir. Trekking is not allowed in the elephant zones.

How long does the elephant safari take?
Most afternoon safaris last about three hours.
Your mandatory 850–1,200 THB safari truck will take you through the savanna zone. You will spend time waiting at elevated wooden viewing platforms and watching the salt licks. By 18:00, all visitors must exit the wildlife area.
