Kui Buri National Park strictly operates its wildlife watching zone from 14:00 to 18:00. This means your safari starts in the peak heat of the day and ends near dusk. The mandatory 850–1,200 THB safari trucks are open-air and lack roofs. Proper clothing is essential for a comfortable visit.
How should I dress for the park?
Wear a lightweight, breathable long-sleeve shirt and long trousers.
These loose layers serve a dual purpose. Early in the safari, they block the intense afternoon sun. By 17:00, they provide a physical barrier against mosquitoes. Avoid shorts and tank tops to prevent sunburn and bug bites.
Do I need a hat and sunscreen for the truck?
Yes, sun protection is mandatory for the afternoon start.
The safari vehicles are entirely open to the sky. You will have no shade overhead while driving across the savanna or waiting at the elevated wooden viewing platforms. Apply sunscreen before you arrive at the Huai Luek Ranger Station.

Why is insect repellent necessary?
Mosquitoes become highly active in the late afternoon near the jungle fringe.
You will be near artificial salt licks and ponds as dusk approaches. Apply repellent to any exposed skin once the sun drops. The park rules prohibit loud noises, so it is better to avoid swatting at bugs while watching the elephants.
What should I pack for the rainy season?
Bring a rain jacket or poncho if visiting between May and November.
The park is open year-round, but rain is common in these months. Since you must remain inside the safari vehicle or on designated observation platforms, an umbrella is impractical and blocks views. A poncho is the best choice.

What else should I bring into the wildlife zone?
Carry plenty of drinking water and your camera equipment.
There are no shops inside the deep wildlife zone. Food and snacks are strictly not permitted, so stick to water. Pack binoculars, or rent them at the gate for 100 THB. If you bring a camera, use a 100mm to 400mm telephoto lens.
Questions travellers ask
Can I wear shorts on the Kui Buri safari?
You can wear shorts, but it is highly discouraged. Long, lightweight trousers offer better protection against the sun in the open truck and mosquitoes at dusk.
Are there covered safari trucks?
No, the mandatory local safari trucks are open-air with no roof. This is why a sun hat and sunscreen are necessary.
Can I bring food on the safari?
No. Food and snacks are strictly not permitted inside the wildlife viewing zone. You can only bring drinking water.
